Corrosion Resistance
Al-6XN (UNS N08367) is a super austenitic stainless steel with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. As a corrosion-resistant alloy with good cost-effectiveness, its comprehensive corrosion resistance has significantly surpassed 316L, while its corrosion resistance is comparable to other corrosion-resistant nickel-based alloys such as C-276, but with obvious cost advantages. The significant nitrogen content added to the alloy results in higher tensile strength relative to conventional austenitic stainless steels (such as 304, 316, 317), while maintaining excellent material toughness and impact strength. According to ASME standards, the allowable stress value of Al-6XN is 40% higher than that of 316L and nearly double that of copper-nickel alloys. In typical service conditions—such as exposure to 60% sulfuric acid at temperatures below 80°C—the alloy demonstrates a very low corrosion rate, typically less than 0.1 mm/year.
