Corrosion Resistance
Haynes Alloy C-276 is a tungsten-containing nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with extremely low silicon and carbon content, and is considered a universal corrosion-resistant alloy.
-
The alloy exhibits several key characteristics
- Excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of corrosive environments, including both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres.
- Exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Its high molybdenum and chromium compositions provide strong resistance to chlorine-induced corrosion, while the addition of tungsten further enhances its overall corrosion resistance.
In addition, C-276 is one of the few materials capable of withstanding corrosion from wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide solutions. It also shows remarkable resistance to highly concentrated chloride solutions such as ferric and cupric chloride. This alloy performs well in sulfuric acid across a wide range of concentrations and is among the very few materials suitable for use in hot, concentrated sulfuric acid solutions.
-
