Corrosion Resistance
INCONEL 600 is a nickel-chromium-iron-based solid solution strengthened alloy, exhibiting good resistance to high-temperature corrosion—including both acid and alkali environments—as well as oxidation resistance. The alloy also possesses excellent cold and hot workability and welding characteristics. INCONEL 600 maintains good thermal strength and high ductility at temperatures up to 700 °C and is engineered for service across a broad temperature range, from cryogenic levels to 1093 °C. It demonstrates exceptional oxidation resistance and carbide stability even at elevated temperatures up to 1093 °C. This alloy is also particularly effective in environments containing hydrogen chloride and chlorine gas, with proven performance at around 538 °C in hydrogen chloride and up to 510 °C in chlorine gas. Additionally, it exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in nitrogen, hydrogen, and carburizing atmospheres, making it a preferred material for use in heat treatment furnaces and other high-temperature processing equipment.
-
Applications
Crucible furnaces, muffle furnaces, and thermal processing fixtures and baskets, vacuum furnace installations, chloride equipment with a maximum operating temperature of 1000°F, titanium dioxide plants, heaters, distillation columns, bubblers, towers, and condensers in fatty acid processes, evaporator tubes, tube sheets, and press plates in sodium sulfide manufacturing processes, and rosin acid treatment equipment in pulp manufacturing, among others.
