Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 59 (W.Nr.2.4605, NiCr23Mo16Al) is a high-nickel alloy product developed by VDM in Germany. Originally known as Nicrofer 5923 hMo, it is now generally referred to as VDM 59 alloy or simply 59 alloy. With an extremely low carbon and silicon content, the alloy resists grain boundary precipitation, making it highly suitable for hot forming and welding applications. Thanks to its balanced composition—rich in nickel, chromium, and molybdenum—Alloy 59 offers exceptional resistance to both oxidizing and reducing chemical environments. It also provides enhanced protection against chloride-induced corrosion, making it ideal for demanding corrosive conditions.
Alloy 59 demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance to a range of inorganic acids, including nitric, phosphoric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acids. It performs particularly well in mixed acid environments, such as combinations of sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, where many other materials fail.
