Corrosion Resistance
The elevated chromium and molybdenum content in 2507 duplex stainless steel provides excellent resistance to a wide range of organic acids, including formic and acetic acid. It also offers strong protection against inorganic acids, particularly those containing chlorides. Compared to 904L, 2507 demonstrates superior corrosion resistance in diluted sulfuric acid environments that contain chloride ions. While 904L is an austenitic alloy specifically engineered to resist pure sulfuric acid, it does not match the chloride resistance of 2507. In contrast, 316L is not suitable for use in hydrochloric acid environments, where it is susceptible to both localized and general corrosion. 2507, however, maintains high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion even in diluted hydrochloric acid conditions.
